Belgian Soccer Star Carcela Caught in Illegal Match During COVID-19 Lockdown

Moroccan international Mehdi Carcela was caught participating in a clandestine match, while Belgium has suspended all sporting events to contain the spread of the coronavirus.

Since April, the Belgian championship has decided to end its season to remain within the standards set by the authorities for an effective fight against covid-19. But Mehdi’s passion for football seems stronger than anything, to the point where he was involved in a clandestine match interrupted by the Belgian police in the Basse-Meuse zone. It was on Wednesday around 4:30 pm at the Visé sports field.

The Atlas Lion had as companions in this meeting that violates the rules of protection against the coronavirus, more than sixty people, including his former teammate from Standard de Liège, Junior Edmilson, his current teammate Samuel Bastien, as well as several players from RFC Liège.

The Alderman for Youth and Sports of the city of Visé, Julien Woolf, quickly denounced the incident on his Facebook account, stating that he had tried to put an end to the clandestine match. "I was alerted by residents of such a gathering. I immediately went to the scene and found that a match was in progress. Then I recognized several stars and asked them to stop playing, as they had to set an example. We are facing an unprecedented health crisis. The Basse-Meuse police arrived very quickly on the scene and I congratulate them for their perfect, firm, psychological intervention, with the necessary tact to evacuate the stadium completely in a calm manner," he specifies.
