Belgian Political Power Couple Ties the Knot

In Belgium, Sammy Mahdi, 36, president of the CD&V, celebrated his wedding last weekend with his partner and party colleague Nawal Farih, 36, a federal MP.
Former State Secretary for Asylum and Migration Sammy Mahdi announced the news on Instagram. He shared two photos of the couple, accompanied by the message: "We were best friends first, we are now husband and wife."
Sammy met Nawal in 2019, in the run-up to the federal elections. They were friends first, before falling in love. The two lovebirds were discreet for a long time before making the relationship official. "The most beautiful and most stable form of love is born from a deep and sincere friendship," assured the president of the CD&V, in the podcast "De mens achter de politiek" (translate "the human behind politics", editor’s note).
He added: "And that’s always the case between us. She is my best friend. And that’s what makes her the best partner I can imagine. We often talk about a soulmate... There is none greater for me than Nawal."
In early 2025, the political actor had announced his engagement. Mahdi and Nawal are now husband and wife.
