Bayern's Mazraoui Faces Injury Setback, Africa Cup Participation in Doubt

The Bayern Munich club has just announced bad news for two of its players, including Moroccan international Noussair Mazraoui.

The joy has turned into trouble for the German club Bayern after their 1-0 victory over Manchester United in the Champions League. The Germans will likely have to do without two key players, Moroccan Noussair Mazraoui and Kingsley Coman.

Noussair Mazraoui had to give way at halftime. According to Julian Buhl, a journalist at t-online, Mazraoui was forced to leave the field due to muscle stiffness in the calf. A more thorough examination is planned in Munich to assess the severity of the injury.

But Mazraoui was not the only one to suffer that evening. Kingsley Coman also left the field due to muscle problems, according to Bild. The diagnosis for Coman remains uncertain, despite the imminent return of the team to Munich for further examinations.

Bayern Munich, in a statement, confirmed the unavailability of the two players for the upcoming matches. While Coman is suffering from a muscle fiber tear in the right thigh, Noussair Mazraoui is dealing with a muscle bundle tear in the left thigh, diagnoses made following the post-match medical examinations.

As for the replacements, they appear less problematic for Coman with players like Leroy Sané and Serge Gnabry ready to take over. But Mazraoui’s case raises more questions, as the alternative solutions are less obvious. Konrad Laimer could nevertheless be the preferred option.

It is unknown at this time whether the Moroccan’s injury will keep him off the field for a long time, especially since the Atlas Lions must play the very difficult Africa Cup of Nations next month, where the Dutch-Moroccan is part of Walid Regragui’s core squad.
