Barcelona Star Lamine Yamal's Father Target of Planned Attack, Three Suspects Arrested

New developments in the case of Mounir Nasraoui, the father of Lamine Yamal, victim of a knife attack on Wednesday night in the Rocafonda neighborhood of Mataró (Barcelona). According to the preliminary investigation by the Mossos d’Esquadra, the three suspects arrested had planned to assassinate the father of the football star.

Of Spanish nationality, the three suspects, members of the same family, are not known to the judicial and police services. According to La Vanguardia, they live in the same Rocafonda neighborhood as the victim with whom they had a dispute in the afternoon of Wednesday. After being separated by patrols of the Mataró local police, the suspects asked Yamal’s father to meet them in the evening in a parking lot to "make peace." When he arrived on the spot, Mounir Nasraoui was surrounded by the suspects, then beaten and stabbed twice in the abdomen.

The victim’s life was saved thanks to a friend, "otherwise they would have killed him," Yamal’s son confided to a Barça coach. Mounir was taken to the hospital in critical condition. He was losing a lot of blood and was admitted to intensive care where he spent the night from Wednesday to Thursday. In an exclusive interview on the Chiringuito de Jugones show, the father of the Barcelona striker said he was out of danger. "Thank God, I’m a little better," he said, before hoping that "justice will do its job."

Mounir also posted on Instagram to thank his subscribers for their messages of support. "I’ll come back stronger than ever," he wrote in the caption of a photo of him and his son. According to the version of the facts provided by Yamal’s father to the investigators, he was walking in the street when a child poured water on him from a balcony, which led him to scold the minor. The child’s father, half-brother and grandfather then came down to attack him. The rest is known. The Mossos d’Esquadra submitted their investigation report to the court on Friday.
