Barcelona Star’s Father Summoned in Knife Attack Case: From Victim to Witness

Mounir Nasraoui, the father of Barcelona prodigy Lamine Yamal, had been the victim of a knife attack on the night of August 14 last year, in a street in the Rocafonda neighborhood of Mataró (Barcelona). Four people had been arrested as part of this case, at the end of the investigation conducted by the Mossos. They are the brothers Albert and Adrià G.C., the father of the two brothers and a family friend, recalls La Razon.

Earlier that day, the father of Lamine Yamal is said to have had an altercation with neighbors who had insulted him and poured water on him. A confrontation that had required the intervention of the Mataró local police to separate them. It was following this dispute that Mounir Nasraoui was attacked by a group of people and received several stab wounds to the chest and arms.

Considered until now as a victim of an attempted murder, the father of the Barcelona striker now has the status of a witness in this case. According to Crónica Global, the father of the player of Moroccan and Equatorial Guinean origin is being prosecuted for assault and battery as part of the investigation conducted by the Mataró investigating court. Mounir is accused of having earlier assaulted the young man who later stabbed him on August 14.

One of Mounir’s friends told the police that the father of the FC Barcelona prodigy "had started punching him (the young man) non-stop". Adrià G. C., since that is who it is, explained that, feeling "cornered", he took the weapon that a friend of Mounir’s had drawn to defend himself. "I took the knife, I thought they were going to kill me, that they were after me and I felt defenseless," he had declared to the court.

The young man was placed in pre-trial detention on August 16, 2024. The defense has argued that Mounir Nasraoui should also be indicted for the assault on his alleged aggressor. The lawyers of the accused have managed to convince the Provincial Court, which has decided to summon the father of Lamine Yamal as a witness at a hearing scheduled for July 21.
