Barcelona Star's Father Survives Brutal Knife Attack in Catalonia

More than a year later, witnesses to the attack on Mounir Nasraoui, the father of Barcelona star Lamine Yamal, tell a chilling story.

On August 14, 2024, Mounir Nasraoui was seriously injured after receiving three stab wounds in Mataró, in the Rocafonda neighborhood of Catalonia, the same neighborhood where his son Lamine grew up. The perpetrators of the attack were four in number (two brothers, their father, and a friend). They were all armed with an expandable knife and a stone and were waiting for him in the parking lot of the football field.

"They wanted to kill him. One of them had a knife. He started hitting like an animal. He was going to kill him," says a witness. Another witness adds: "Mounir ran, the one with the knife chased him and stabbed him two or three times in the chest and on the side." Nasraoui, 39 years old, suffered three stab wounds "endangering his life" and was rushed to the Can Ruti hospital in Badalona, where he spent several days in intensive care, reports La Vanguardia.

This attack follows a trivial incident. While Lamine Yamal’s father was walking alone on Franck Marsha Street, a child threw water at him from a balcony while playing with a basin. A few hours later, an altercation broke out with the child’s family, who had come down to the street.

Although he is the victim, Nasraoui was summoned as the accused by the 3rd investigating court of Mataró. The defense of the aggressor had pleaded an "error." He even claimed that he had seized the knife from a friend of Nasraoui’s after receiving a punch that had fractured his nasal septum. But he will be convicted last December. Subsequently, he will be released under judicial supervision. However, he continues to maintain that he and his family are the true victims of Lamine’s father. The investigation is still ongoing.
