Award-Winning Chef Richard Sandoval to Open First African Restaurant in Marrakech

Richard Sandoval, a globally renowned Mexican-born restaurateur and multiple award winner, is expanding his international footprint by opening a restaurant in Marrakech, and another in Athens (Greece). This is his first foray into the African and Greek hotel markets.

Toro Toro, Sandoval’s main pan-Latin steakhouse concept, will soon open in Marrakech this summer. Toro Toro Marrakech is inspired by Latin traditions and the art of wood-fired cooking. The restaurant offers wood-fired grilled dishes, tableside-presented and carved meats, family-style ceviches, tiraditos and antojitos, as well as exceptional beverage options including Latin wines and classic Latin cocktails. The design of this first Sandoval concept in Africa is inspired by the lively, sensual and chic city, incorporating dark walls and low lighting alongside sleek leather and velvet furnishings.

"The interiors are infused with warmth and comfort through the layering of patterns and textures," explains Jesper Axel, associate at LW Design group, to Hospitality Design. "Toro Toro Marrakech highlights South American influences with Latin motifs, dark floral walls referencing the Amazon, the use of leather in burnt South American hues and artworks that orient the imagination towards shamanic cultural influences." The restaurant can accommodate up to 148 guests at a time.

In Greece, Chef Richard Sandoval is opening Toro del Mar Athens, his first high-end beach club concept, located at the heart of the country. The restaurant extends along the Voula beach. Its capacity is 500 people.
