Automotive Suppliers Flock to Tanger Med Despite Pandemic Challenges
Friday 6 November 2020, by
Although the health crisis is raging, the automotive sector continues to develop in Tanger Med. Nearly half a dozen new equipment manufacturers have just set up their businesses in this export-oriented industrial platform.
Investors are still fascinated by the Tanger Med industrial platform, especially in the automotive equipment sector or tier 2 suppliers. Among the new arrivals is the Korean specialist in window lift modules or car door opening, manufacturer of hinges and pedals for several manufacturers, including Renault, Samsung Motors, PSA, Hyundai and Kia, and also brands of the General Motors and Volkswagen groups, Kwangjin. Present in more than 12 countries around the world, the Tanger Med plant is the group’s very first installed in Africa, reports L’Economiste.
The French specialist in mold manufacturing, Tecma Global Solutions (TGS), has also just started up a production site for finished or semi-finished plastic injection molds for the automotive industry, which should allow it to promptly meet the wishes of its customers, by making available to Moroccan or European automotive manufacturers a range of molds. Its space extends over 2,500 m² within the industrial platform.
The subsidiary of the Spanish Gravalos, Gravesa, has also set up a 3,700 m² unit on the Tanger Med industrial platform, specializing in the manufacture of mechanical and household appliance parts.
In addition to the assets offered by Morocco in terms of connectivity for inputs and exports, and the availability of labor, the stability of production at Renault Tanger and the increase in the load of PSA in Kenitra, facilitate the proximity of attractive and more profitable sites for suppliers, notes the same source.
