Tanger Med Industrial Zones See 10% Growth Despite Pandemic Challenges

The production of the six industrial activity zones of Tanger Med has seen a remarkable increase despite the Coronavirus pandemic. According to the CEO of Tanger Med Zones, Jaafar Mrhardy, who spoke during a webinar, the activities have recorded a growth of up to 10%.
The six industrial activity zones of Tanger Med have recorded a growth rate between 5 and 10% in terms of industrial production. This emerged from the intervention of the CEO of Tanger Med Zones, Jaafar Mrhardy, during a webinar organized by Tanger Med, in partnership with the British economic daily "The Financial Times".
The meeting held under the theme "A new era of international trade: Selection of a global hub for industry, logistics and distribution", allowed Mr. Mrhardy to make known that the stoppage of industrial activities for a period of 3 to 6 months in Europe did not affect the port of Tanger Med. "We have maintained our activities with countries on the American continent such as the United States and Canada," he explained.
"The diversity of customers, investors and industries we have allowed us to establish a balance between the different export destinations during the pandemic, which helped maintain a fairly high level of production," he added, noting that some activities even experienced growth during this period.
Mr. Mrhardy noted a slight decline in industrial activities at the Tanger Med industrial platform at the beginning of the pandemic due to the reduction or cessation of activities of some operators whose clients on other continents had decided to stop their activities.
Specifically, trade and logistics have developed resilience to the coronavirus pandemic. Thus, the growth achieved by the Tanger Med industrial platform proves that there are opportunities to be seized by some operators during this pandemic period, informs Mr. Mrhardy.
For the official, the strategic geographical position of the port of Tanger Med, on the Strait of Gibraltar, reinforces its competitiveness, recalling that the Tanger Med port complex alone covers 1,000 hectares, while Tanger Med Zones is projected on an area of 5,000 hectares, of which 2,000 hectares are developed.
