Attention, new weather alert in Morocco

The Directorate General of Meteorology (DGM) has just issued an orange alert bulletin for several provinces of the Kingdom. Heavy snowfall, thunderstorms and gusty winds are expected until Wednesday.

Snowfall will affect the reliefs from Tuesday midnight until Wednesday noon. The most significant accumulations, estimated between 50 and 80 cm, will affect the provinces of Al Haouz, Ouarzazate and Azilal. Other regions such as Ifrane, Béni Mellal, Khénifra or Taroudant will record heights of 30 to 50 cm, while the provinces of the Rif and the Oriental, including Sefrou, Al Hoceima and Taza, will receive between 10 and 30 cm of snow.

Similarly, heavy thunderstorms will hit a large part of the territory from this Monday evening (8:00 pm) until Tuesday afternoon. Rainfall will reach 45 to 65 mm in the north and center (Taounate, Chefchaouen, Khénifra, Beni Mellal), and 35 to 45 mm on the Atlantic coastal axis including Casablanca, Rabat, Kénitra and Benslimane. More moderate rains, from 25 to 35 mm, will water the regions of Marrakech, Safi and Essaouira.

This depression will be accompanied by strong gusts of wind. From Tuesday 6:00 am to Wednesday 6:00 am, winds blowing between 75 and 85 km/h will mainly affect the provinces of the southeast and the reliefs, in particular Ouarzazate, Taroudant, Zagora, Tata, as well as Guelmim and Tiznit.
