Armed Man Threatens Worshippers Outside Reims Mosque During Eid Celebration
Wednesday 5 June 2019, by
A man just came, in front of the mosque in Reims, France, to brandish a fake firearm in front of the worshippers leaving the mosque, including a veiled woman. More scared than hurt...
It was with a BB gun that a 72-year-old man frightened several people leaving the mosque, threatening them, dressed in pajamas. This happened on June 4th, in the morning. This information comes from the France 3 website.
This media, which specifies that the man just pointed his gun at several people without saying anything (letting the minds imagine everything and anything), gives us testimonies of people who experienced this incident: "We were leaving the Sainte-Anne mosque for the Eid celebration, we were going to pick up our vehicles. A gentleman did not want to let us pass, he pulled out a gun. As soon as we saw the gun, we all ran," said Sara, the woman who was threatened by the old man.
Sara also explains: "We were scared, we thought it was an attack, we didn’t really know what was going to happen. Fortunately, no one was hurt."
A certain Mohamed, hiding behind a car, would have asked the old gentleman to lower his gun. But the latter refused. He continued to threaten them with his BB gun.
The president of the Association of the Mosque and the Islamic Center of Reims (Amcir), Mohamed Bouzaggou, explains the outcome: "There was a panic movement. The municipal police, who were patrolling the area, quickly intervened and alerted the national police."
The individual was then taken into custody and heard for "violence with a weapon." But the psychiatric evaluation reveals that there is nothing anti-Muslim about it, according to the same media which writes: "According to the Reims public prosecutor, Matthieu Bourrette, the anti-Muslim act track is ruled out. "The balance of this man is at least fragile," he explains. A psychiatric evaluation is underway, his criminal responsibility is questionable." The sub-prefect of Reims confirms that it is "someone disoriented who has health problems."
