Aix-en-Provence Mosque Evacuated by Police After Illegal Reoccupation

The police proceeded on Wednesday morning to the evacuation of the Calendal mosque in Aix-en-Provence. The place of worship had already been closed in the past by the prefecture for "threat to security".
A police source questioned by the site 20minutes confirms the police intervention, an operation that took place without incident. "The mosque was subject to a closure order, but it had been reoccupied, this police source explains. This is an eviction procedure for an illegally occupied place. The intervention took place without incident," the source said.
If this mosque had been closed by the authorities between February 2017 and May 2018, it is because the person in charge is accused of radical preaching. The Interior Minister at the time indicated that "the person in charge of this mosque was preaching a radical ideology calling for discrimination, hatred and animosity towards others".
Reoccupied later by some worshippers, the social landlord of the premises had taken the matter to court and obtained their eviction by the courts, finally executed through the police intervention last Wednesday.
