Gunman Attacks Brest Mosque, Injures Imam; Suspect Found Dead After Apparent Suicide

Gunshots were fired at worshippers in a mosque located in the Pontanézen district of Brest. It was in the middle of the afternoon on Thursday, June 27, 2019. Two people were hit, including the imam.
Rachid El Jay, the imam of the Brest mosque, and one of the officials responsible for video recording the sermons, were injured by gunfire from an individual who arrived at the scene in a Renault Clio car. He fired six or seven times before fleeing.
The alleged perpetrator of the terrorist attack, who claimed his act on his Facebook account, was found dead in his car a few hours later. He is said to have committed suicide by shooting himself in the head, according to the Brest Judicial Police.
The imam and his collaborator, both injured in the knees, were taken care of by a pharmacist located near the mosque before being transported to the "Cavale blanche" hospital in Brest.
The entire neighborhood was cordoned off by the police, while a female witness was heard by them. The mayor of the city and the sub-prefect also went to the scene.
