An Israeli giant wants to train Morocco’s future military pilots

The initiative was reported this Tuesday, September 8, by Africa Intelligence. According to the specialist publication, Elbit is trying to sell the Royal Air Force a training program based on models already tested with the British and Greek air forces.

In the United Kingdom, Elbit is partnered with KBR within Affinity Flying Training Services. This joint venture provides, operates and maintains the aircraft intended for part of the British military pilot training system. Its fleet includes Grob G120TPs, T-6Cs Texan and Phenom 100s.

In Greece, Elbit obtained a contract in 2021 worth approximately 1.65 billion dollars over twenty years to establish and operate the Greek air force’s international training center in Kalamata. The program notably includes M-346s, T-6s, networked simulators, ground-based training systems and fleet maintenance, according to Elbit Systems.

Aircraft, simulators and maintenance

This is the much broader model than simply supplying equipment that Elbit is now seeking to offer Morocco. The group is capable of handling training aircraft, simulators, associated infrastructure, maintenance, logistics and part of the organization of the training curriculum.

Elbit Systems is already involved in several equipment programs for the Royal Armed Forces. The Israeli group notably supplies UT30 MK2 turrets intended for Morocco’s WhAP 8x8 armored vehicles.

The proposal concerning pilot training nevertheless represents a different approach. If it came to fruition, Elbit would no longer limit itself to delivering military equipment to Morocco: the industrial group would also take a role in training and supporting future Royal Air Force pilots. For now, the project remains at the commercial discussion stage.
