The Port Authority of Almería (APA) is preparing for the Marhaba Operation 2022 which will see a significant influx of Moroccans, after two years of cancellation.

Almeria will participate in a "good Marhaba Operation this year", said Jesús Caicedo, the president of the APA, in a statement, recalling that this Operation represents more than 60% of the passenger traffic of the port of Almería. In 2019, the last year the Operation took place, more than 580,000 passengers transited through the port of Almería, to or from the ports of Melilla and Nador, reports Europa Press.

Caicedo specified that the port of Almeria is ready for the Marhaba Operation 2022, as most of the infrastructure and services necessary for the smooth running of the Operation were rehabilitated in 2021, in anticipation of the holding of last year’s edition. Thus, the lighting and air conditioning of the maritime station have been improved, new boarding information panels have also been installed, as well as two new television screens in the passenger terminal.

For this Marhaba Operation 2022, the APA has planned the installation of tents for passengers waiting to board. Other facilities are expected in the coming weeks, such as those of civil protection, the Moroccan Consulate, the prayer room, etc.
