Port of Malaga Gears Up for Record Influx of Moroccan Travelers in 2022 Marhaba Operation

The Port of Malaga is actively preparing for the 2022 Marhaba Operation, after two years of cancellation. In 2019, 13,932 vehicles and 66,126 passengers transited through this port. These figures could increase by 50% according to forecasts.
The infrastructures used for the last Marhaba Operation in 2019 will be rehabilitated for this 2022 edition, as retained by the representatives of the Port Authority of Malaga during a meeting held last Thursday, in the presence of representatives of the government delegation, civil protection, Eurogate (the concessionaire of the maritime station) and the shipping companies Baleària and Trasmediterránea.
Thus, two tents will be used for the parking of vehicles in the San Andres area and a tent will also be installed in the pre-boarding area for passengers. Other areas will be used for ticket sales and various services, independently of those dedicated to health and hygiene, according to Malaga Hoy, specifying that this year, passengers will be able to enjoy the Wi-Fi connection.
The Marhaba Operation takes place between June 15 and September 15 each year. It allows Moroccans in Europe to travel to Morocco via the Spanish ports to spend their summer holidays. It was canceled in 2020 and 2021 due to the health crisis.
