Melilla and Malaga Ports Coordinate for Return of Operation Marhaba After 2-Year Hiatus

The President of the Port Authority of Melilla, Victor Gamero García, recently met with his counterpart from Malaga, Carlos Rubio Besabe. The preparations for Operation Marhaba 2022 were at the heart of the discussions.
The two officials discussed issues of common interest related to the organization of Operation Marhaba, such as the current state of the maritime passenger and freight transport service between the ports of Melilla and Malaga, which has remained inactive for two years due to the closure of the border for health reasons. Two years during which Operation Marhaba could not take place.
That is why the two presidents are working to ensure that this operation runs smoothly this year, according to El Faro de Melilla. The Port Authority of Melilla (APM) has already undertaken work to improve the lighting around the maritime station and provide updated information to passengers. Mobile toilets have also been installed in the pre-boarding area and maintenance work will be carried out in the passenger waiting and transit areas.
The APM has also planned to install a tent for passengers waiting to board. It will set up other facilities in the coming weeks, such as those for civil protection, the prayer room and a daycare center if possible. Health measures will also be adopted to control the epidemiological status of passengers.
