Algerians Protest Closed Morocco Border, Threaten Mass Exodus

Faced with the refusal of their authorities to open the borders with Morocco following King Mohammed VI’s call, Algerians have expressed their discontent near the town of Maghni and threaten to flee to the kingdom.
Many Algerians are tired of the closure of the borders with Morocco. Gathered at the end of last week, in the vicinity of Maghnia, they expressed their anger. They once again called on the authorities of their country to reopen the borders that have remained closed since 1994. A wish recently expressed by King Mohammed VI who called for "prevailing wisdom and higher interests" of the two countries, "to overcome this deplorable situation that wastes the potential of the two countries, to the great detriment of the two peoples and the bonds of affection and brotherhood that unite them".
Since the closure of these borders, Algerians living in this border region have paid a heavy price. They can no longer live from trade with Morocco. No more trade, no more income. A huge shortfall. According to the protesters, the situation persists while the Algerian government has not implemented any development plan for the region, reports Al Ahdath Al Maghribia. According to them, the negative attitude of the Algerian regime in the face of the sovereign’s call is an attack on the principle of good neighborliness. They even threatened to launch a collective exodus to Morocco if their call is not heard.
