Algerian TV Fires Journalist Over Morocco Bank Footage in Africa Cup Coverage

The Algerian public television has dismissed its sports correspondent in charge of covering the 34th edition of the Africa Cup of Nations currently taking place in Côte d’Ivoire because of Morocco.
Algerian public television blames its sports correspondent for having broadcast a report in which the Moroccan bank, Attijariwafa Bank, is seen. After apologizing to viewers, the channel said it was not an advertisement for the Moroccan bank, but simply a serious mistake.
This decision by Algerian public television has provoked reactions from observers. They were surprised by this decision, described as childish. Since the channel has recently broadcast images filmed in reports showing European or African banks in its coverage of the Africa Cup of Nations.
Before the kick-off of the 2023 CAN, the Algerian public television had decided to boycott the matches of the Atlas Lions. It preferred instead to broadcast all the matches of Morocco’s opponents in its group (F).
