Algerian Imam Claims Witchcraft Behind National Team’s Early CAN Exit

After Algeria’s elimination in the first round of the Africa Cup of Nations football (CAN) tournament, for the second consecutive time, an Algerian imam made serious accusations against Morocco and the other teams that are continuing their adventure in this 34th edition, in Côte d’Ivoire.
An Algerian imam accuses African teams of practicing witchcraft, which, according to him, is the reason for the Fennecs’ failure at the Africa Cup of Nations (CAN) currently taking place in Côte d’Ivoire. "The African teams place witchcraft behind the nets to prevent the goals from entering, to disrupt the opposing team and injure its players, especially against our Algerian team," he said on television.
Furthermore, the religious leader insinuates that the historic achievement of the Atlas Lions in the last World Cup is explained not by the talent of the Moroccan players, but by the practice of witchcraft. "There are African teams that have a very modest level, but they have managed to reach advanced stages of the World Cup, thanks to their use of witchcraft," he continued, thus referring to Morocco, the first African team to reach the semifinals of a World Cup.
After securing first place in Group F by dominating Zambia (0-1), the Atlas Lions will face South Africa in the round of 16 of the CAN on Tuesday at 9 pm (Moroccan time) at the Laurent Pokou stadium in San Pedro.
