Algeria Rejects Morocco’s Demand for Direct Flight to CHAN 2023 Tournament

Following the threats made by the Royal Moroccan Football Federation (FRMF) to boycott the African Nations Championship (CHAN) in Algeria if the national team’s travel is not ensured via a Royal Air Maroc (RAM) special flight, Algeria has just responded.
According to Rachid Oukali, head of the CHAN organizing committee, even if the organizing committee has "the obligation towards the Confederation of African Football to facilitate the formalities for the entry of the participating delegations on Algerian soil," no CAF regulation obliges "the host country of any competition to provide a specific plan for the travel of the participating delegations." He specifies to the FRMF that the committee is therefore not required "to provide a direct flight to a team."
The African Nations Championship (CHAN) is scheduled from January 13 to February 4 in Algeria. The FRMF’s executive committee is sticking to its decision, that of only participating in this competition if RAM ensures the travel of the national team from Rabat to Constantine, the city that will host the national team’s matches.
