Algeria’s Military Chief Urges National Unity Amid Rising Regional Tensions
Faced with the renewed tension between Morocco and the Polisario, Army Corps General Chengriha Saïd, Chief of Staff of the People’s National Army (ANP), calls for the federation and coordination of the efforts of Algerians, institutions, including the national media, to counter the threats and dangers looming over Algeria.
"The defense of our country and the preservation of its sovereignty today are also the concern of all. [...] This calls on us to intensify and federate efforts to face all the threats and dangers that threaten our country, whatever their nature and origin [...]," the general said at the opening of a seminar on "the role of the national media in strengthening the internal front and facing hostile plans targeting Algeria."
For this senior military official, it is up to all Algerians to act in a way that is in tune with the developments taking place in the world on various levels and in multiple fields, and to federate efforts to merge them into the same crucible, namely to serve Algeria and its supreme interest and preserve its security and stability.
"The national media play a pivotal role in strengthening and reinforcing adherence to shield our homeland from all dangers, threats and scourges," he added, before calling to counter the media challenges generated by information and communication technologies.
On Friday, Morocco deployed elements of the Royal Armed Forces (FAR) in the buffer zone of Guerguerat to secure the flow of goods and people. A military intervention that follows the repeated actions of the Polisario in the region. The militiamen of the Front were routed.
