Algerian Ambassador Protests ICESCO’s Support for Morocco’s Guerguerat Action

The support of the Islamic World Organization for Education, Science and Culture (Icesco) for the Moroccan military intervention in the Guerguerat buffer zone is not to the liking of the Algerian ambassador to Rabat, Abdelhamid Abdaoui.
The Algerian diplomat went to the headquarters of ICESCO where he met the Director General, the Saudi Mohamed Al Malik, reports L’Expression. Mr. Abdaoui would have disapproved of this organization’s support for Morocco.
At the end of this meeting, ICESCO issued a press release. In this press release, Mr. Al Malik "welcomes the availability of Algeria which has fulfilled its financial participation in the 2019 budget and is about to pay its 2020 contribution".
On the instructions of King Mohammed VI, the Royal Armed Forces (FAR) had deployed, on Friday, November 13, a security cordon in the buffer zone to secure the flow of goods and people. Morocco had been forced to carry out this operation due to the actions of the Polisario militiamen. In the wake of this, this movement accused the kingdom of having violated the 1991 ceasefire and declared that the war had begun. Algeria, an ally of the Polisario, feels threatened.
