Algeria Fails to Lure Moroccan Striker Amine El Ouazzani to National Team

The Algerian Football Federation (FAF) failed to convince the young Moroccan striker from the Portuguese club Braga, Amine El Ouazzani, to join the Fennecs.
To persuade Ouazzani to abandon the Atlas Lions for the Fennecs, the president of the Algerian federation, Walid Sadi, promised the striker of the Moroccan Olympic team that he would be directly integrated into the senior team. But the young player declined the offer, preferring to continue his international career with the Atlas Lions. The FAF’s pressure on his entourage did not change anything.
As a result, Ouazzani’s name does not appear on the list of 26 Algerian players called up by Vladimir Petkovic for the double confrontation against the Togolese team, scheduled for October 10 and 14 as part of the third and fourth rounds of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (CAN) qualifiers in Morocco. The 23-year-old player was also not called up by Walid Regragui, the coach of the Moroccan national team, for the two matches against the Central African Republic, scheduled for October 12 and 15 in the same framework.
Born in Grenoble to a Moroccan father and an Algerian mother, Amine El Ouazzani plays for Sporting Clube de Braga in the Portuguese championship. The Atlas Lion won the Under-23 Africa Cup of Nations with Morocco in March 2023. The striker was also at the Paris Olympics with the Moroccan team, which finished third in the tournament, winning the bronze, the first Olympic medal in its history.
