Algeria Calls for Boycott of Africa Cup of Nations Futsal in Disputed Western Sahara
Algeria has called for a boycott of the Africa Cup of Nations Futsal. Organized in Laâyoune, in the Moroccan Sahara, this competition is causing the anger of Algeria and the Polisario, who are doing everything to cancel the Moroccan edition.
The Algerian representatives in the international sports bodies have disapproved of the choice of the Confederation of African Football (CAF) which has selected the city of Laâyoune to host the Africa Cup of Nations Futsal (CAN-2020).
At the end of their meeting in Algiers, the collective of these representatives strongly condemned the agreement issued by the Confederation of African Football regarding the decision of the Royal Moroccan Football Federation to organize, from January 28 to February 5, 2020, the Futsal CAN in the city of Laâyoune, in violation of the statutes of CAF, FIFA, the principles of the Charter and the Olympic ideals as well as the charter of the African Union.
To this end, the collective has issued an urgent call for a boycott of this competition so that CAF and the organizers change the host city of the event.
