Mauritius Withdraws from African Futsal Cup, Citing Political Concerns

The Mauritius Football Federation has announced its withdrawal from the Africa Cup of Nations Futsal in Laâyoune, a few days after replacing South Africa. For political reasons, the Bafana Bafana had withdrawn from this continental indoor football competition.
A blow for the Royal Moroccan Football Federation (FRMF)! The Mauritius Federation has announced its withdrawal from this competition, less than an hour before its 2nd match against Libya on January 30, after losing its first match against Guinea, reports Telquel.
According to a source close to the federation, this withdrawal is disappointing. "It is anything but the spirit and values that football instills in us. To withdraw from the competition after having given a participation agreement, and that an hour before the match, is unacceptable," laments the same source, who also believes that the Mauritians would have succumbed to the pressure from South Africa.
It should be noted that this withdrawal puts the organizers in an embarrassing situation. As the schedule has not undergone any changes, the Bafana Bafana had been replaced shortly afterwards by Mauritius, whose team arrived in Morocco this week, we are told. With this surprising decision, group A now only includes three teams: Morocco, Libya and Equatorial Guinea.
