The National Airports Office (ONDA) plans to build a new terminal at Dakhla airport, announced Mohamed Abdeljalil, the Minister of Transport and Logistics. This project, which is currently under technical study, should start in 2024 for an estimated duration of three years.

Since its inauguration in 2010, Dakhla airport has been equipped with a terminal of 3,000 m², capable of accommodating up to 300,000 passengers per year. In addition to an aircraft park designed to simultaneously receive four medium-sized aircraft, the airport is distinguished by a range of modern equipment guaranteeing safety, security and quality of service to passengers, explained the minister.

With 257,000 passengers recorded in 2019 and regular air traffic growth of 18% recorded between 2007 and 2019, Dakhla airport could welcome up to one million passengers by 2040. This growth was highlighted in a recent report by the General Directorate of the National Airports Office, which announced an airport expansion project. Estimated at 212 million dirhams, Dakhla airport should see its area increase from 3,000 m² to 10,000 m² by 2040.
