Tangier Airport Expansion: New Terminal and Control Tower Plans Unveiled

Another step has been taken in the realization of the expansion project of the Tangier Ibn Battouta airport for which a call for tenders had been launched by the National Airports Office (ONDA).
Of the 13 companies that submitted bids, it is the Tarik Bouhmala-Abdelkrim Bouyacoub group that won the contract for the architectural studies and supervision of the work related to the project to build a passenger terminal and a control tower at Tanger Ibn Batouta airport, launched by the National Airports Office (ONDA), as can be read in the excerpt from the minutes of this architectural competition. Architect Tarik Bouhmala has already unveiled the synthetic images of this architectural project, reported Médias24.
The National Airports Office (ONDA) has already mobilized 800 million dirhams for the installation in Tangier Ibn Batouta of a passenger terminal of approximately 55,000 m², and the construction of a new control tower. This terminal includes a public hall (reception, circulation and waiting area, service of the various modules, information, shops, services, ticket withdrawal for departing passengers); a pre-screening inspection zone before entering the public hall, allowing access control for all terminal users and a check-in area including passenger and baggage check-in counters and spaces reserved for check-in queues.
The architectural design of the new tower will have to meet the functional and technical needs of the various services housed in this building. This involves the location of the control tower outside the air easements and offering a clear view of the runway and various airport facilities, the best layout of the space to accommodate the technical equipment and provide a suitable environment for the work and rest of the tower staff and the construction of upper floors or immediately adjacent to the control tower to house the various dependencies.
