Agadir Tourism Sector Prepares for Safe Reopening Amid Pandemic Challenges

Tourism professionals in Agadir have discussed strategies to be adopted to revive the sector from the slump caused by the coronavirus pandemic. A meeting chaired by the Minister of Tourism, Handicrafts, Air Transport and Social Economy, Nadia Fettah Alaoui, was held on Tuesday at the headquarters of the Wilaya of the Souss-Massa region.

Even though Nadia Fettah Alaoui shares the concern of tourism professionals, she reminded them "of the need to apply all measures to preserve the safety and health of citizens, tourists and sector personnel". While commending the efforts made by tourist establishments which, voluntarily, have housed repatriated Moroccans, stranded tourists, the minister specified that all "hotel staff were tested for screening before resuming work".

She also announced that a "health guide is made available to all sector operators" and provides information on "health and precautionary measures" that are mandatory for the well-being of all. The Ministry of Health will occasionally conduct unannounced visits to "verify and ensure that hotels in Agadir comply with the various rules in order to "guarantee the smooth running of the summer season and regain the confidence of domestic and foreign tourists".

Tourism in Agadir was thriving, before the health crisis slowed its momentum with "a considerably reduced occupancy rate", recalled the Wali of the region. He also stressed that it is important that life resumes in Agadir on the tourism front, specifies the same source.
