Aboukhlal Makes Triumphant Return to Morocco Squad in 5-1 Win Over Gabon

Zakaria Aboukhlal made his big comeback to the Moroccan national team during the match against Gabon for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers. Absent from the field since last season due to an injury, the player marked his return with a remarkable entry in the 62nd minute, replacing Brahim Diaz, who scored a brace during the match.
This match, won convincingly by the Atlas Lions with a score of 5 to 1, was an opportunity for Aboukhlal to reunite with his teammates and demonstrate his determination to represent his country again.
On his Instagram account, the player expressed his joy and pride in wearing the national jersey again: "Very happy and proud to wear our national team jersey again as well as our victory yesterday. Thank you to all our supporters." He also emphasized the importance for him of playing for Morocco: "Nothing equals the feeling of wearing the Moroccan jersey again, Al Hamdoulillah".
Aboukhlal’s return strengthens an already performing Moroccan team, composed of a mix of experienced players and young talents. As Walid Regragui pointed out during the pre-match press conference against Gabon, the competition is now very tough and it is very difficult to integrate the Atlas Lions squad.
