800kg Moroccan Hashish Bust: Dramatic Sea Escape Gone Wrong

The incident occurred Thursday afternoon, when agents from the Provincial Maritime Service spotted a pleasure boat performing maneuvers deemed suspicious as it approached their patrol boat.

As the agents moved closer to conduct an inspection, the boat’s sole occupant threw himself into the sea to attempt an escape, according to the Guardia Civil.

However, the boat had been left with its engine engaged at constant speed. It continued its course without a pilot before turning, putting the suspect at risk of being struck or crushed.

Rescued before arrest

The civil guards had to board the vessel to regain control of it, then rescue the man who had fallen into the water. He was recovered unharmed before being arrested.

During the search, agents discovered twenty bundles of hashish distributed throughout the boat. Their total weight reached approximately 800 kilos.

The pleasure boat, equipped with a 300 horsepower outboard motor, was also seized. The suspect faces charges related to drug trafficking.
