High-Speed Sea Chase Ends in Death of Moroccan Drug Smuggler Off Spanish Coast

A Moroccan transporting 115 kilos of hashish in a narco-boat died during a high-speed chase with a Spanish customs patrol boat, on the coast of Caños de Meca, in the municipality of Barbate (Cádiz).
The patrol boat began chasing the boat it suspected of transporting drugs, finally managing to intercept it. The agents boarded the vessel and arrested its two occupants: an undocumented Moroccan and a Spaniard. The Moroccan, injured during the operation, died of a heart attack during their transfer to the port of Barbate, reports El Español.
The second occupant of the boat, who had jumped into the water to try to escape the agents, was taken to the hospital to receive appropriate care before being taken to the headquarters of the Civil Guard in Algeciras (Cádiz), where he was placed in custody. The customs services also seized the boat that was transporting four bags of hashish weighing 115 kilos.
On February 9, two Civil Guard agents lost their lives after being run over by a narco-boat in the port of Barbate. Over the past four months, some 558 boats transporting drugs from Morocco have been identified in the strait and on the Andalusian coast, according to official sources from the Spanish Ministry of the Interior.
