According to figures reported on October 4 by Al Jazeera, Botafogo’s official accounts have gained more than 300,000 followers since signing the Moroccan international. More than 262,000 are from Morocco, a rise also noted by the Brazilian sports press.

Posts dedicated to the number 22 help explain the influx. In total, 127 pieces of content have generated more than 64 million impressions and 34 million video views across the various platforms. These figures measure how widely the posts were distributed; the same user may have seen them several times.

As soon as he arrived in Rio de Janeiro, Ziyech had urged Moroccans to keep supporting him. In a video, the player addressed them and said he was proud to represent the kingdom’s colors in Brazil.

Botafogo dedicates a documentary to Ziyech

The club is now nurturing this connection with its new audience. It has launched a clothing collection with Reserva Inc and released a documentary titled “Ziyech: Morocco’s Star.” The film garnered more than 40,000 views in its first twenty-four hours.

Announced on September 28 on Botafogo’s website and released the following day on YouTube, the production revisits the negotiations and the attacking midfielder’s arrival. It features previously unseen footage and testimonials, highlighting his importance to Moroccan and African football.

Botafogo also intends to introduce its history, former players and ties to Rio de Janeiro to its new supporters, according to Bolavip. The club is seeking to sustain the interest sparked by Ziyech beyond posts focused solely on the Moroccan.

The 33-year-old former Ajax and Chelsea player has signed through the end of 2028. His signing was made official on September 10, after his medical, a few days after he left Wydad.
