18-Year-Old Moroccan Midfielder Aïman Maurer Makes Historic Debut for Clermont Foot
Monday 6 February 2023, by
Starter in the match that pitted Clermont Foot 63 against AS Monaco, Moroccan attacking midfielder Aïman Maurer is the youngest player in the club to play professionally. He has thus just broken a record of nearly 20 years held by Vincent Ce Ougna.
Aïman Maurer signed his first professional contract in December. Against Monaco, the 18-year-old player was the author of the pass that led to the free kick that caused the first goal against Monaco. "I had to get into the game," acknowledged the young attacking midfielder. "I tried to repay the confidence the coach gave me. I shouldn’t have been afraid, even against Monaco. There’s a beginning to everything, I was waiting for this impatiently, and I tried to seize my chance," reports La Montagne.
The young prodigy can count on his teammates, who say they are happy for his promising debut. "It’s in the image of what he shows in training. He’s a carefree player and he really put Monaco in difficulty with the quality of his performance," said Jim Allevinah. "He had to take advantage of it. He has the qualities and the talent to do good things. He showed it, to him to keep this requirement, to do good things" completes Jérémie Bela.
With his potential and the description made of him by his teammates, Aïman Maurer has not finished breaking records. He is a pure product of the Clermont Foot 63 academy, which he joined in 2019. But before that he had played with Red Star, Paris-Saint-Germain and AC Boulogne Billancourt. He is also a player who has played with the Moroccan under-17 national team and is now with the U20s. Given his skills, he could well join the A team, as was the case for Bilal El Khannouss.
