Genk Midfielder Bilal El Khannouss Chooses Morocco Over Belgium for Senior International Career

The attacking midfielder of KRC Genk Bilal El Khannouss has turned his back on Belgium and chosen Morocco. He explains his choice.
Although he played for the Belgian junior teams of U15, U16, U17 and U18, Bilal El Khannouss preferred the Atlas Lions to the Red Devils at the senior level. "I then had the chance to play for Morocco. My grandparents are from Morocco and I want to make them proud, hence this choice," he explains in a conversation with his teammate Patrik Hrosovsky on the Racing Genk YouTube channel.
The Genk attacking midfielder hopes that the coach of the Moroccan national team Walid Regragui will put him on the list of the Atlas Lions to participate in the World Cup which will take place from November 20 to December 18, 2022. "I don’t know if the coach will call me, but I’m impatient and I will respect his choice," explains the 18-year-old player.
