World Cup: Morocco’s Belgian-Born Stars Set to Face Birth Country in Crucial Match

The Atlas Lions will face the Red Devils this Sunday, November 27, 2022 for their second match of the 2022 Qatar World Cup. Among them are binational players born in Belgium who are ready to challenge their country of birth.
The time when Belgium snatches Moroccan-born players from Morocco is over! There are four of them joining the Atlas Lions. They are Selim Amallah, 26, Bilal El Khannouss, 18, Anass Zaroury, 19 and Ilias Chair, 25, all born in Belgium. These four young players have chosen Moroccan sports nationality. They will have to play this Sunday against their country of birth.
"It’s their country of birth, they were born there. Some could have applied for a place on the other side. They are euphoric, they want to. They give this positive energy," estimated Walid Regragui, the coach of the Moroccan national team at a press conference on the eve of the Morocco-Belgium match. And he added: "For example, the little Bilal El Khannouss (18 years old) that I wanted to bring to the press conference, in the end I was right not to do it so that we don’t ask him too many questions. He wants to play tomorrow".
