4-Year-Old Boy Survives Vicious Pitbull Attack in Brussels Apartment

Last Monday, Ryad, a 4-year-old boy, was violently attacked by a pitbull in Koekelberg, Brussels.
Ryad had just come back from school and was getting ready for his karate class, when his path crossed that of his neighbors’ pitbull. According to RTL, the bad encounter was made when Ryad and his mother were leaving their ground floor apartment. The dog rushes at them without the two knowing what to do to protect themselves against it. An incident that leaves the young victim with both physical and emotional consequences.
"He came into the apartment and literally started devouring our son. My wife was pushing him back, but he kept coming back, attacking Ryad’s legs, his belly and his hands. She couldn’t do anything, she was just trying to protect his face and throat," Ryad’s father Mustapha told RTL.
Despite his mother’s efforts to protect him, Ryad comes out with numerous injuries. "He can no longer move normally and he has eight stitches. One of his calves is third degree injured," according to his father, who points out that he has to move around in a wheelchair.
In a press release, the mayor of Koekelberg, Ahmed Laaouej, indicated that he had taken a police order to capture the dog. "The local police and the canine brigade of our area have captured the dog, which will be examined by a veterinary expert for the follow-up. I greatly thank them, because it is always a delicate operation. We have a very strict municipal regulation concerning dangerous and potentially dangerous dogs. It was not respected and the administrative procedures will be applied," he specified.
