Belgian Councilor Arrested at Brussels Airport in Money Laundering Probe

Hicham Chakir, municipal councilor of Molenbeek, in the Brussels region, would have spent several days in prison before being released.
According to the Belgian media Bruzz, the name of the Belgian-Moroccan had appeared in a money laundering case. He was arrested on his arrival at Zaventem airport (Brussels).
The public prosecutor’s office confirms his incarceration with the newspaper La Dernière heure, specifying that Hicham Chaki was in prison from September 22 to 26 last before being released last Monday. The public prosecutor’s office decided to appeal his release.
Former driver of mayor Françoise Schepmans (MR), he had engaged in politics within the Reformist Movement (MR) before joining the Socialist Party in 2018.
