Brussels Socialist Councillor Faces Party Scrutiny Amid Money Laundering Probe

Hicham Chakir, a Molenbeek municipal councillor of Moroccan origin, who is being prosecuted in a corruption case, has been heard by the disciplinary commission of his party, which is not making a decision about him for the moment.
The politician’s name is said to have appeared in a money laundering case. He was arrested on September 22 at Brussels Airport and then released on bail. The case has shaken the Socialist Party, which has been asked to pronounce on his suspension or exclusion, reports la Capitale.
Seized, the PS disciplinary commission heard the accused, but did not make a decision for the moment, the newspaper points out.
After his hearing, the disciplinary body felt that it did not have enough elements to make a decision, but reserves the right to make one in the near future depending on the judicial developments of the case, the same source said.
