Xiaomi Store Opening in Casablanca Sparks Confusion, Draws Crowd Amid COVID-19 Concerns

A farcical scene accompanied the opening of a store of the Chinese phone manufacturer, Xiaomi, in Casablanca. More than fifty people gathered in front of the store, confusing it with a mask distribution point.
While the authorities are working to prevent gatherings in public places, in order to prevent the spread of Coronavirus, the Chinese Xiaomi has chosen the wrong time to inaugurate its new store on one of the main arteries of the metropolis.
Wearing protective masks, the brand’s employees and managers had difficulty containing this large influx of customers, the number of which eventually alerted the city’s police services.
The latter had to intervene forcefully to restore order, by preventing the inauguration of the point of sale, and by dispersing the curious who had come in excess, despite the safety instructions.
