Morocco Ramps Up Domestic Face Mask Production Amid Global Shortage

Faced with the ever-increasing demand for masks, fabric factories are converting to the production of protective masks. They have urgently received their certification from the Moroccan Institute of Standardization (IMANOR).
For now, Micagricol in Casablanca and IKS in Marrakech have received this certification, which is valid for one month. It imposes a significant set of specifications for the manufacture of "this piece of fabric that is experiencing unprecedented demand all over the world," says H24infos.
According to IMANOR, "the masks must meet certain characteristics," such as limiting the projection of droplets from the user potentially affected by the coronavirus onto their surroundings. They must protect against any external attack without hindering breathing. In Casablanca, the Micagricol factory is able to produce 500,000 masks per day, and could quickly move to 800,000.
According to the same source, these masks will be sold for around one dirham, in packs of 10 or 50 units. To prevent Morocco from having to import masks, Moroccan manufacturers are aiming for a production of 80 million masks.
