World Cup 2030 with Morocco: Spain fights to save its candidacy

The president of the Higher Sports Council, José Manuel Rodríguez Uribes, affirmed on Monday that Spain’s candidacy for the 2030 World Cup is "not at all" in danger, confirming that he is in negotiations with FIFA to resolve the problem concerning the Spanish football federation.

José Manuel Rodríguez Uribes supported that Spain’s candidacy for the 2030 World Cup is "not at all" threatened, assuring that he has engaged in "talks with FIFA" since last week to "harmonize the decisions that must be taken" regarding the Rubiales affair. "We want things to be done by the rules, in collaboration with FIFA, to bring constructive solutions to the problems," Uribes told the media El Español.

While expressing his concern about the situation of the Spanish Football Federation (RFEF), the former Spanish Sports Minister indicated that FIFA is "aware that Spain was at the forefront of the candidacy" for the 2030 World Cup, before the integration of Portugal and Morocco. "This country is extraordinary from the point of view of the tradition of football and, with the enthusiasm that exists in all the cities for the World Cup, there is no risk. We will defend the candidacy with all our might," he said.

The president of the Higher Sports Council also said that he has appealed to the Administrative Sports Court (TAD) to request the disqualification of Pedro Rocha as president of the Management Commission of the Spanish Football Federation. "We have clearly filed the complaint and it is well-founded; the TAD is the competent body to settle these issues. The last word belongs to it," Uribes concluded.
