Women in Healthcare Face Higher COVID-19 Exposure Risk, Study Finds

The High Commission for Planning (HCP), on the occasion of World Population Day, indicated that women, who are in the majority in health-related and care jobs, are the most exposed to the coronavirus.
Protecting the rights and health of women and girls in the face of the coronavirus pandemic. This is the theme chosen this year to celebrate World Population Day.
"Women, who represent 58% of medical staff and 67% of paramedical staff (nurses and technicians), are more exposed to the risk of virus contamination than men," the HCP said in a statement.
"30% of households affected by prenatal and postnatal consultations, and 34% of those affected by reproductive health, gave up on them during the health lockdown," adds the HCP, which notes that the health crisis has greatly impacted households headed by women, in terms of access to health care.
Psychologically as well, men and women are diversely affected by the COVID-19 crisis. According to the HCP, women heads of household seem more affected by sleep disturbance than men (26% vs. 23%), by anxiety (51% vs. 49%) and by depression (9% vs. 6%).
