The wife of Younes Bilal, the 38-year-old Moroccan coldly shot dead in Mazarrón (Murcia) in June 2021, said on Tuesday at the trial of the alleged murderer of her husband that the latter was well integrated into Spanish society, did not own firearms and had no previous history with the accused.

The woman recounts that she was married to Younes for 11 years and they had an 8-year-old son. The three of them, as well as two other minor children of the woman from a previous relationship, lived together. Younes worked during the week as a painter in Madrid and came to spend the weekend with the family. He earned around 1,700 euros per month, which was the only source of income for the family, she confides.

"When I came back after the funeral, I was very psychologically ill. I didn’t work for 7 or 8 months and the town hall offered me a job as a cleaning lady in the school and I accepted it. After 4 or 5 months, I had an anxiety attack and the psychiatrist deemed it appropriate to give me rest," explains the widow who says she found herself "with nothing" after her husband’s death and survives with the help of her family.

The woman emphasizes that she has benefited from psychological and psychiatric assistance since Younes’ death. The same goes for her three children. The little boy "is doing very badly" and is being followed by a psychologist, she specifies, recalling that the minor and she came to the crime scene before the ambulance and saw Younes dying. The eldest of the three children is also undergoing treatment.
