Violent Clashes Erupt at Moroccan Market Over Price Gouging Amid Health Crisis

The weekly Oulad Jelloul market in the province of Kénitra experienced a commotion and clashes this Sunday following "maintained speculation" by some merchants on the price of products.
According to the local authorities dispatched to the scene, this market had never experienced such violent clashes. But the greed of certain intermediaries provoked the anger of the visitors, causing stone throwing.
The authorities condemned these unusual speculations occurring in a context like the one the Moroccans are going through, due to the current health crisis. They also opened an investigation to determine the responsibilities and take the "necessary measures against the speculators in accordance with the regulatory provisions in force".
