Violent Clashes Erupt as Migrants Attempt to Enter Melilla from Morocco

The migrants who tried to enter Melilla illegally from Nador on Friday showed extreme violence against the Moroccan security forces blocking their way.
According to witnesses cited by the EFE agency, these migrants, mostly sub-Saharan, engaged in a confrontation against the Moroccan agents, using homemade knives, acid, hammers, stones and sticks. The result, nearly 50 injured by the Moroccan security forces and 50 others by migrants.
On its website, the Nador section of the Moroccan Association for Human Rights (AMDH) published videos showing "migrants attacking the barrier, armed with sticks and knives, and the authorities using tear gas."
Deploring the situation, the association asked the migrant community "to move away from these violent practices" and also the Moroccan authorities to open a dialogue "with all parties for a return to calm."
