Vast operation to house the homeless in Marrakech
The cold is setting in and the urgency is being felt in Marrakech. Faced with the multiplication of people sleeping outside during this winter period, the local authorities have launched a vast operation to provide shelter. The objective is twofold: to protect the most vulnerable and to preserve the image of the ochre city.
The teams on the ground have the mission of identifying the homeless people installed in public spaces and transferring them to safe places. This approach aims to offer them dignified living conditions and to avoid the tragedies linked to the drop in temperatures. The operation is not limited to a police action: it directly involves volunteers from civil society who help with identification and social support.
The officials ensure that this mobilization is not just a punctual response to the bad weather. It is part of a broader political will to strengthen solidarity within the city. Marrakech is thus seeking to show that it can reconcile its status as a major tourist destination with a humane management of social precariousness.
