Marrakech Clears Jemaa El-Fna Square of Homeless in Tourism Push

Local authorities in Marrakech have conducted a large-scale campaign aimed at clearing Jemaa El-Fna square and its surroundings of beggars, homeless people, and mentally ill individuals.
Carried out on instructions from the wali of the Marrakech-Safi region, the operation is part of the dynamic to clean up the ochre city, driven by authorities to enhance its tourist appeal.
Assisted by auxiliary force elements, local authorities proceeded to apprehend about forty homeless people, beggars, and mentally ill individuals who were in Jemaa El-Fna square and its surroundings, reports Kech24.
All these individuals have been transferred to the appropriate social services, which will initiate the necessary steps for their care by specialized medical centers or social protection centers as appropriate, while respecting human dignity.
