Umrah Scam in Marrakech: Dozens of Pilgrims Defrauded

Pilgrimage dreams turned into a nightmare for several worshippers. Officers from the Marrakech prefectural police arrested a travel agency manager on Wednesday, February 4, on suspicion of fraud and breach of trust.

The investigation was launched following several complaints filed by deceived customers. According to initial findings, the suspect allegedly collected sums totaling approximately 3.8 million dirhams in exchange for promises to organize trips to the Holy Sites for the Umrah ritual—services that were never provided.

During the arrest and searches conducted by police, a large quantity of documents was seized, including passports belonging to third parties, plane tickets, and cash suspected of being proceeds from this illicit activity.

The suspect was placed at the disposal of the judicial investigation under the supervision of the competent public prosecutor’s office, in order to determine the exact extent of the facts and identify all the victims.
