Morocco: the fake commissioner who promised marriage to empty accounts

The arrest took place on a boulevard in the capital after a complainant recognized the individual and alerted the authorities. The agents of the seventh district of security proceeded to arrest the suspect, who was already the subject of reports for similar acts. The man, married and a family man, used this false identity to gain the trust of his targets before disappearing.

According to the newspaper Assabah, the searches carried out at the suspect’s home, located in the Kariat Ouled Moussa district in Salé, allowed the seizure of handcuffs. This equipment was used to accredit his alleged status as a senior officer. The examination of his phone also revealed photographs of him during various traditional engagement ceremonies organized with the families of his victims.

The modus operandi consisted of approaching women in public places, claiming to be a police officer assigned to sensitive civilian missions. Once the relationship was established, he quickly made a marriage proposal before extorting sums of money and gifts, presented as advances for the organization of the festivities.

The investigation conducted by the judicial police made it possible to interview several victims harmed by these actions. The suspect justified his absences and the postponement of administrative procedures by an overloaded professional schedule. This case comes after the recent dismantling of a similar network also operating in the perimeter of the capital.
